Philip was a light hearted sentimental man who could light up a smile on your face even if you were feeling down! If he was feeling lousy he never let it show because he kept himself busy telling jokes and funny stories to make everyone else happy! He was a Gentle Giant with an enormous heart the size of a gigantic Teddy Bear! Rest in peace dear friend!

I met Phil back in the late 60's and early 70's when he literally held court at Cummings School. His brothers taught finesse, Phil taught you how to be physical and never back down. Doyon & LaVangie looked up to him and respected his efforts. He also kept us safe as we got older and he was bouncing on Marginal Way, Warehouse? maybe. Taught us how not to be knuckleheads and stay out of trouble.

He was ahead of his times as a youth mentor, teaching life skills that you took with you forever while teaching sports. He did not talk about the East Deering days when I saw him al Walmart, but his dry humor was always present.

I met Phil years ago on when I was shopping at Walmart with my young daughter. He was wearing big, pink bunny ears as it was nearing Easter. He had my daughter convinced he was the Easter Bunny.. He was the absolute highlight of my trips to Walmart. for many years to come from that day forward. We talked about family (how he loved his grandchildren!!)., pets (his beautiful shepards - and how he sometimes took care of his sisters cat) and other every day life happenings. I will miss his smile and good humor - he was truly a very lovely man.

For years I enjoyed seeing Phil at Walmart as I shopped in the garden center. He was
a fixture there, and I've asked his buddies about him when I go there now. The place doesn't seem the same there without him. He made many customers feel at home and happy by his presence and his conversation. He was a good man, and all of us shoppers miss him.
My/Our condolences to his family from all of his customers over the years at Walmart.

Phil was always welcoming and kind each time I saw him. I will always cherish the memories from James's college graduation in Hawaii. Phil was glowing with pride and happiness.
Wishing James and the rest of the family my condolences.

You will be missed, Phil. I still can't believe we won't see you rolling into Lawn and Garden to tell us your latest news on getting closer to your goals for getting your surgery done, so you could be with your family in California. To Phil's family, I give my deepest sympathy and wish you the strength to get through this sudden and unexpected loss.
Sincerely,
Michelle Ramsdell
