John David Kulaga, 65, of Portland, passed away at his home on October 8, 2017. He was born December 28, 1951 in Attleboro, MA to Zygmund and Elaine (Wilbur) Kulaga.
John graduated from Attleboro High School in 1969 and immediately joined the U.S. Army. He served during the Vietnam War as a member of the 173rd Airborne Division and then joined the 101st Airborne Division when he returned state-side.
Following his service to our country, John lived on Cape Cod, MA and attended Cape Cod Community College. He moved to Raymond, ME where he worked for Sabre Yacht building yachts, and then to Portland, ME while working for Mercy Hospital, Jotul Stove, Nichols, and Maine Medical Center.
John was very witty and enjoyed language humor, he was known for his quick quips. He was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, swimming, being by the ocean, hiking, and bicycling. He followed all sports, especially the Boston teams. He was known around Portland as the “Dog Biscuit Guy” because he was a dog lover and never left home without biscuits in his pocket to give to dogs along his way.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Zygmund and Elaine Kulaga. He is survived by: his two brothers, Daniel Kulaga (Kathie Penna) of Kennebunk, ME and Michael Kulaga (Sarah Bothfeld) of Montpelier, VT; and nephews, Cullen Kulaga (Katie) of Wakefield, MA, Brendan Kulaga of St. Croix, Virgin Islands, and Jared Kulaga (Brandy) of Saco, ME; and numerous friends.

A gathering of family and friends will take place from 2:00 – 4:00 PM on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at A.T. Hutchins Funeral Home, 660 Brighton Ave. in Portland.
