On behalf of VIS, we offer our deepest condolences. Those of us who had the good fortune to have met or spoken with Dick, were touched by his kindness and honest manner. Personally, he was truly one of my favorite customers. Blessings to his family and friends.

My Uncle was this big hulking man who could often be intimidating due to his size, but he was
also a teddy bear. When we were young, he would wrestle with his nieces, nephews and children. I will miss him greatly. Rest In Peace Uncle Dicky.

Dear Bubba, Dickey & Anna Ruth, we just heard of Dick's passing. I'm terribly sorry for your loss and that we missed his service. I can hear his booming voice calling my Dad by his given name "Steve" even though most people used a nickname. I remember noticing, even as a kid, the amazing respect these two men had for each other and the relationship that they enjoyed. When I began driving Dad made sure I had Dick's number in my wallet in case I got stranded somewhere and needed help. My brother "Stevie" and I spent countless hours with Dad at "The Station" and at "The Body Shop" in Portland. As an adult I worked in downtown Portland for many years and would occasionally stop at the gas station just to get a gigantic hug and loving smile. I wish I had done that more. I loved Dickie and send all of you my love as well.

A great man is now at rest. He did so much for so many. He did not expect anything in return only respect. Many times vehicles got stuck, broke down had to be towed and the person could not afford to pay. Dickie with his kind heart would tow them free of charge. He gave alot of people alot of breaks. His heart was bigger than he was! He prided himself in working hard and taking care of his family. He will be missed by so many. We are so grateful to have had his friendship. So long Dickie, we will miss your big smile, bolsterous laugh and our talks. So happy that you lived your dream! Love you lots! Rick & Rita

Dicky was a caring and loving man. HE would give anyone the shirt off his back to help them out them and not even blink an eye and never ask for anything in return. Dicky had a heart of gold. We will really miss him. Rest In peace my friend. Charlie Thompson.

I was so saddened to hear of the news of Dickie's passing. Over 30 years ago when I was starting out in the construction business, he helped me out so much with equipment rental and trucking. I had such respect and appreciation for him. He was just that type of person who was generous and willing to offer help to anyone. I last saw him 2 years and he was still working hard at what he loved to do. He will be sadly missed. My sympathies to all of you. Scott Proctor

My sincere condolences go out to Dick's family. I considered him a great friend and still tell storie about our escapades from back in the 60's. The last time I saw Dick was on one of my visits back to Maine a few years ago. He has not only left me with many fond memories but many more with his children and family.

We were very sorry to read of Dick's passing in today's paper. Dick was one of those "larger than life" guys, with a big laugh and a big smile. He always acted like you were the one person he hoped to see that day. We haven't seen Dick for a few years, but feel sad that we won't run into him again.
