Winslow Edmund Whitten, Jr of Sweden, Maine is now at peace in the arms of the God he wholeheartedly loved and served. He died peacefully on November 3, 2022 after a long battle with dementia.
Win was born at home in Hollis Center, Maine on May 27, 1934. He and his 2 brothers and 2 sisters were raised in Portland, where he graduated from Deering High School in 1952. Before graduating from LeTourneau Technical Institute, he married the love of his life, Nancy Nevers. They celebrated their 68th anniversary in June 2022.
Win’s love for the Lord was passed down from his mother. His love for driving trucks and serving/helping others was passed down from his father. This powerful combination created a man who set about to change the world. If he saw a need, he immediately tried to meet it.
He was first introduced to Word of Life in 1949 as a camper on the Word of Life Island. Later, he and his wife served as Word of Life youth group leaders in their local church. After retiring, he was able to devote more of his time to do volunteer work for Word of Life. He drove their tractor trailer truck many times between Florida and New York. He also was involved in many construction projects. Some of his greatest friendships developed from his work for Word of Life.
Win was very proud of his family. Even in dementia he could tell you the exact number in his immediate family. Win and Nancy were blessed with 5 children, 17 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren…so far!
Win will be greatly missed by his loving family. His smile will not be forgotten. Hopefully his stories will continue to be told-with a few more added embellishments! We look forward to our heavenly reunion!
Funeral Services will be 10 AM Saturday November 12,2022 at A.T.Hutchins Funeral Home, 660
