Virginia had a strong faith. She was a Communicant of St. Pius X Church and enjoyed watching Catholic services on TV. She was proud of her Italian ancestry and was a member of the Italian Heritage Center. She also enjoyed playing cards and board games, attending plays and the symphony, going to basketball games, sewing, reading, knitting mittens, beano, water aerobics and hosting her family for Christmas Eve. “Gram’s” house was often the hub of activity for her grandchildren and their friends. She had many close friends and valued their times together, whether it be gathering around the kitchen table or socializing at events.
In her earlier years, she and Ray enjoyed camping, bean suppers and spending time with neighborhood friends. Virginia also had many fond memories of good times at the Highland Lake Camp. Later on, she enjoyed many travel adventures with family and friends. She graduated from Deering High School in 1941 and attended Northeastern Business School. Virginia, aka Ginny, held several positions throughout her 32-year career at the Telephone Company. She was also the treasurer of her family’s tile business. After retiring, she enjoyed volunteering at Good Cause Thrift Shop and working at the City of Portland election polls.
She will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, Virginia requests a donation be made in her memory to a charity of your choice.
The family wishes to thank the Gosnell House for their care and compassion during her final hours.
