Thomas "Paul" Carroll Sr. Obituary

Thomas Paul Carroll 09/27/1927 – 06/30/2019

Gorham- Thomas “Paul” Carroll Sr, 91, of Gorham passed away in Florida due to complications from a stroke on June 30, 2019 at Tidewell Hospice House in Bradenton Florida, with his family by his side.

The son of Thomas F. and Mary B. Carroll he was born in Seneca Falls New York.  He spent his childhood in New York, South Portland, and summer in Prince Edward Island.  He married his wife Barbara in December 1948, and the two had three children.  He worked at the Galt Block Warehouse in Portland for many years, until they closed.  He then worked for Ginn/Marvin Warehouse at the Rummery Yard in South Portland, and finally retired, at the age of 82, from Ginn Real Estate, where he worked part-time as a handy man.

He was an avid golfer taking up the sport later in life.  He also loved fishing, hunting and canoeing.  He was a lover of airplanes, from large jets down to his model planes which he constructed and flew.  He spent many mornings at the airport watching the jets taking off and landing.  A highlight of his year was seeing the old fighter planes at the Brunswick Naval Air Station at the yearly air show.  He enjoyed keeping a vegetable garden, and canning his vegetables with his wife.  Family and friends were important to him, and he loved camping with his wife Barbara and playing games of cribbage everyone. When he wasn’t with his family you could often find him playing solitaire while watching old war movies and westerns.  He will be missed greatly.

He was predeceased by his wife Barbara, his sons Thomas P. Carroll Jr., and James C. Carroll, his brothers James and Joseph Carroll, his sisters Gertrude “Trudy” Keleman-Jones, and Mary Pfeifer, and his nephew John Carroll.

He is survived by his daughter, Mary Perry, of New Gloucester, his grandsons, James T. Carroll and his wife Beth of North Carolina, Brian T. Perry of New Hampshire, Kenneth P. Perry and his partner Jessica of California, his nephews Joseph Carroll and his wife Susan, David Carroll and his wife Nancy, his nieces LuAnn Stack, and her husband Gary, all of Maine, and Martha Haley and her partner Rick of Florida. He is also survived by four great grandsons, Thomas, Ethan, Bastian, and the newest Grayson, several great nieces and nephews, and his sister-in-law Marilyn Meuwissen, and her husband Bill of Florida.
