Thaian Vu Obituary

IN LOVING MEMORY OF

THAIAN THANH VU

MAY 1, 1973 - DECEMBER 26, 2022

On December 26, 2022, our beloved Thaian Vu passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends. He was 49 years old. Thaian was born in 1973 in Saigon, Vietnam to Nguyen Kim Thoa and Vu Thanh An.  He was 17 years old when he and his mother left Vietnam immigrating to the United States and settling in Maine in 1990. Without speaking a word of English upon arrival, Thaian studied diligently and was able to achieve what many people thought was impossible.  He graduated from Portland High School in 1994.  He went on to study at Saint Joseph’s College, receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with concentration in Accounting. Fresh out of college, Thaian landed his first job as a Tax Accounting Specialist and Associate Financial Analyst at Hannaford Supermarket and worked diligently for 11 years. In 2011, he accepted a new position working for Delhaize America as the Senior Financial Analyst working until his passing.

Thaian met the love of his life, Karina Nguyen in 2012. Shortly after they met, wasting no time, they married in 2013 and welcomed their precious son Tanan in 2018.

Thaian loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed biking and taking long walks with his wife and son. He loved spending time with his mother and younger brother. He loved his family more than anything in this world. He carried them on his shoulders all the way to the end of his life. His mother described “despite how sick he was, he would sit there at the window waiting for her to come home from her shopping trips so he could come out to help her carry the flower bouquet on one hand and hold her using his other hand so she would not be at risk of falling.”  Despite the eventual weakening of his health condition, he still determined to continue to provide the normal activities and care for his precious son Tanan without showing any sign of pain or fatigue.  During the last stretch of his life, he planned a family reunion/vacation by taking his Mom, wife, and son to visit Disney World and his younger brother Antonio and his in-law family. He was the foundation of his family.

In addition, Thaian liked playing all sports, gardening, attending social gatherings, singing, and helping his neighbors and friends. He often challenged himself by undertaking difficult and unwanted projects either at work or at home. He would not stop until everything was accomplished.

Thaian was a hardworking person of strong character and exceptional love and dedication for his family.  He has a pure, kind, and caring heart with an amicable character.

Anyone who knew Thaian knew he was the most loving and devoted son, husband, father, brother, and friend.  His son was the light of his life.  His beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of his family and friends. Our family hope that those who knew Thaian will share stories with others and will treasure all the memories they have created with him. He will truly be missed.

Thaian is survived by his parents, Nguyễn Thị Kim Thoa (mother) and Vũ Thành An (father); his wife, Karina ThếTần Nguyễn; his son, Tanan Thiện Vũ; and his brother, Antonio Lapomarda.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to Maine Cancer Foundation under Thaian’s name.
