Richard Charles Lindahl

Yarmouth – Richard C. Lindahl passed away peacefully on September 30, 2018, surrounded by his family after a brief battle with cancer.

Dick was born in Princeton, Illinois, to Lewis Synkersen (Denmark) and Mabel Dahlgren (Sweden).  Dick was one of 12 children.

When Dick was very young his mother died unexpectedly.  Soon after, the remaining children were put into an orphanage and then later adopted.  Dick and his brother Irv were adopted together by Otto and Maude Lindahl and they grew up in Galva, Illinois.  Later in life Dick would be reunited with some of his lost brothers and sister (Martha Hughes [deceased], Mary Lou Sheets, Irv Lindahl [deceased], and Dean Seefeld).

After high school Dick joined the military as a T.I. in the Air Force.  He was first stationed in San Antonio, Texas, and then was stationed in Bangor, Maine, where he met and married Sarah Teresa Hogan.  They had five children together; Richard Jr., Olie, Peter, Trina, and David.

After military service, Dick worked as a food broker and worked for Beechnut for many years.  Later Dick and Teresa bought a variety store in Falmouth, “Foreside Variety”, and then another store in Yarmouth, “Lindahl’s Village Variety” where Dick was well thought of over the years.

After 10 years of self-employment Dick returned to the food business as a broker for Pezrow and Barclay, Brown & Cavanaugh.  He worked all over southern Maine and New England.  Dick’s shrewd business dealings landed him a property on Littlejohn Island where he lived enjoyably for over 40 years.

In retirement, Dick helped to develop a commercial property in Yarmouth which included several small businesses.  Also, for many years he worked for The Maine Sportsman, distributing magazines and securing new accounts.

Over the years Dick was involved with several organizations including the Lions Club, AMVETS, Masons, American Legion, and Meals on Wheels.

In life Dick enjoyed antiquing, sports, cars, traveling to Uruguay, animals and pets, and sitting on his deck in the sun overlooking the ocean.

Dick is predeceased by several brothers and sisters, and two sons Richard C. Lindahl, Jr. and Peter S. Lindahl.  He is survived by his children Olie Lindahl (Standish), Trina Foley (Portland), David Lindahl (Yarmouth), and daughter-in-law Beverly Lindahl (Yarmouth).  His grandchildren are OJ, Miles, Tanner, Griffin, Madie, and Kelly.  Dick also leaves behind special people in his life – Jenn, Mike and Manus as well as many, many friends.

Dick was a member of Emmaus Lutheran Church in Falmouth.  Services will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at Emmaus.
