Nancy Valliere Obituary

                                                                                      Nancy Lee (Delyannis) Valliere

                                                                                       March 26, 1933-May 10, 2021

Scarborough-Nancy Valliere, 88, passed away at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough, May 10, 2021 surrounded by her loving and extensive family.

Nancy was born in Ridgefield Park New Jersey, a daughter of George and Lillian (Syvertsen) Delyannis. After completing high school, Nancy joined the Air Force where she attained the rank of Staff Sargeant. After serving in Frankfurt, Germany and Washington DC she returned to civilian life in which she met and then married Paul Valliere (whom she met via her best friend who was married to his brother Robert), of Berlin, New Hampshire, in 1957. Together they raised six children and shared almost 57 years of life and marriage before Paul passed away in 2013.

While their children were growing up, Nancy was very active in the community while working in the insurance and paper goods industries and as she ran a home-based day care center for many years. She was active in the PTA and as a Girl Scout leader for many troops in the Portland area. She loved gardening and reading, as well as travel and discovery, but her greatest passion was singing. She was a longtime member of many area church choirs (St Joseph’s, St. Pius, and Sacred Heart); she was a member of the Marston-Kotzschmar Club, the Rossini Club, and the Portland Community Chorus for many years. She was honored to sing the lead role of Aida in a local opera company for summer stock.

She loved to travel but was always happiest when Paul traveled by her side, regardless of whether they were driving in their beloved White or Green Mountains or flying to the fjords of Norway. They shared a love of nature and animals, a gift they passed on to their children and grandchildren.

Nancy was pre-deceased by her beloved Paul, her parents, her sisters Dorothea, Mildred [Milla], and Violet, and her brother John, her grandson Nathan and sons-in-law Robert and Willie.  She is survived by her children: Elizabeth, Elaine (Michael), Suzanne (Peter), Paul Jr. (Suzanne), Janine (John) and Eric, and her grandsons, William [Sonny] and Scott. Nancy is also survived by her sister Irene Bunyard and brother David Delyannis, and sisters-in-law Louise Burbank and Jean Cooper, as well as many nieces and nephews and their children.

Nancy’s family would like to say a very special and heartfelt Thank You to the entire staff of the Maine Veterans’ Home Scarborough, especially April (Mom’s “5th” daughter), Louann, Barb, Janet, Alexa, Lexie, Ally, Diane and Bethany. We are so grateful for all the care, skill, and compassion that everyone gave to Nancy from her first day there.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 22 at 2:00pm at AT Hutchins Funeral Home in Portland Maine, and a private scattering of the ashes will take place later in the summer.
