Nancy Whitten Obituary

Florida - Nancy Elizabeth Whitten died peacefully on the morning of May 18, 2023, and is now rejoicing with her Creator and Savior.

Nancy was born on July 5, 1933, to Dorothy and Leon Nevers.  She always called herself a leftover firecracker and was full of pop and fizz until the end of her days.  She was the youngest of four children born to the Nevers and was raised in Portland, Maine, where she graduated from Deering High School in 1951.  Three years later, she married her true love Winslow Whitten, Jr.  The two celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary in June of 2022 before Winslow passed into eternity.  Now, the two are together once again worshipping their Savior whom they devoted much of their life to in service.

Nancy and Win raised 5 children, moving to multiple different states before settling in New Hampshire.  While much of Nancy’s time was taken up raising her family, she also served with her husband as Word of Life youth group leaders in their local church.  After their children were grown, they  enjoyed travelling and spending time with their friends at the Word of Life RV park in Florida   Nancy and Win were blessed with 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.  Nancy, armed with her calendar, made sure to call each and every one on their birthdays and anniversaries.  In her later years, Nancy worked hard to care for her husband who suffered from dementia.  Her loyalty, perseverance and dedication to Win are a shining example of the steadfast woman that she was. Nancy dearly loved the Lord and not a day went by that she did not read her Bible and pray.  Her strong Christian legacy lives on in her family and they are thankful for her example.  Her children will always remember her willingness to help and support them, homemade chicken soup and meatloaf.  Her grandchildren will always remember her bedtime story reading and love of playing games – even if she never let them win, and her great-grandchildren will always remember her warm and loving hugs.

The family would like to invite you to a time of visitation on June 3rd from 12:00pm to 1:00pm followed by a funeral service at 1:00pm at A.T. Hutchins Funeral Home, 660 Brighton Ave, Portland ME. A committal service will follow at South Buxton Cemetery.
