Linda Parker Obituary

Linda Louise (Snow) Parker passed away July 6, 2018.  She was born October 4, 1943 in Lewiston, Maine to Herbert and Phyllis (Segars) Snow.

Linda graduated from New Gloucester High School and earned a nursing degree from New England Deaconess School of Nursing.  She spent most of her working career at the Osteopathic Hospital in Portland as a Registered Nurse.  She retired in 1992.  She loved being a nurse so much she volunteered at Brighton Medical (formerly the Osteopathic Hospital) from 2011-13, logging over 500 volunteer hours.

Linda was married to Robert Parker for 47 years before moving in with her daughter Janet Webb and her husband Derek in 2011.  She enjoyed the family dinners they had and looked forward to Christmas shopping adventures with her sisters, Donna and Amy.  She loved spending time with her family and had the signature “Snow Family” laugh, which she expressed as often as she could.  She was very social and always wanted to be involved.  Her attitude towards life was infectious, always positive, loving, and full of laughter.  Mom was strong and optimistic when facing any challenge, no matter how big or small.

She liked playing cards (especially Crazy 8’s, Hearts and Cribbage) and spent hours with Judy playing Rummy.  She loved to tell stories about being an RN and of raising her daughters.  In her earlier years she would sew for the girls, and loved family camping trips.  She loved all things Christmas and her love for the holiday has been handed down to “Jan”, along with her tradition of making Christmas candy for friends and family.  She was especially proud of being a Grandmother to Josh and Jake.  From watching them during the summer when they were younger to scootering up to see their little league baseball games, she never let MS get in the way of being an involved grandmother.  She loved them with all her heart.

Linda was preceded in death by: her parents; brother-in-law, Jim Ault; and sister-in-law, Paula Snow.  She is survived by:  her daughters, Judy Smadu and her husband Peter of Waterford, MI and Janet Webb and her husband Derek of Portland; sisters, Donna Ault of Falmouth and Amy Jensen and her husband Jack of New Gloucester; brother, David Snow of Delaware; two grandsons, Joshua and Jacob Hunnewell of Portland; two grand-dogs, Charlie of Michigan and Remy of Portland; and several nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank the staff at Seaside Rehabilitation & Health Care and at Beacon Hospice for their compassion and love for our mom. This process is never easy and knowing that she was cared for when we could not be there was very comforting to us.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Linda’s name to the Maine Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 45 Gray Rd., Falmouth, ME 04105.

Visitation will take place from 3:00 – 5:00 PM followed by a memorial service on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at A.T. Hutchins Funeral Home, 660 Brighton Ave., Portland.  A reception will be held following the memorial service at Janet Webb’s home.
