John Joseph Volkernick

Rumford - John J. Volkernick Sr., 76, of Burgess Hill, passed away on July 24, 2021. He was born in Rumford on January 23, 1945, a son of Adolph J. and Stella C. (Belskis) Volkernick. John attended Rumford schools and was a graduate of Stephen’s High School, class of 1963. He married his soulmate Jean Louise (Burgess) Volkernick on May 29, 1965. Throughout the years, they enjoyed many vacations and day trips together. They recently celebrated 56 years of marriage.

John worked at Diamond International Mill, Puiia Hardware & Lumber Co., Boise Cascade & Mead Westvaco until his retirement in 2005.

He was a member of the Snowshoe Club and Eagles Club. 

 John enjoyed bowling and playing cards, and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, Dallas Cowboys, and horse racing. He took great pride in caring for his lawn and loved spending time with his cat Lucky. 

His greatest love was his family and will be remembered as a loving husband, and proud father and grandfather. 

John is survived by his loving wife Jean, sons; John Volkernick Jr. and wife Nancy, James Volkernick and wife Rhonda, Jamie Volkernick, daughter; Julie Allison and husband Steve, grandchildren; Brian Volkernick, Chelsea Allison and fiancé Kyle Trask, Zachary Allison, Lauryn Volkernick, his sister Lilly Burns and several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his parents Adolph and Stella, and brothers; Joseph, Paul, and Anthony. Private graveside services will be held in St. John Cemetery in Rumford.
