John, age 92, was born in Rumford, Maine on June 2, 1926. He died the morning of April 8, 2019 at his Stroudwater Lodge residence in Westbrook, Maine.
John is survived by Bernadette Mickeriz, his loving companion for the past ten years; his brother Tom; his children, Pat (Richard) Garrison, Pam (Mike) Gallant Erbes, Sarah (John) Fowler and John Gallant; his grandchildren; Oliver, Max and Neil Garrison, Devin and Nate Erbes, Bennett and Maddie Fowler and Paige and Zach Gallant.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Mary Madelene LeBlanc; parents, Alyre Gallant and Mary MacPherson Gallant; Uncle Clovis and Aunt Albina; and his brothers, William, Alexander, Maurice and Raymond.
John graduated from Stephens High School, St. Michael’s College in Winooski, Vermont, and the University of Maryland Dental School. Prior to graduation from high school, he enlisted and served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946.
John loved being a dentist, and was proud of his Acadian ancestry. He was an accomplished and humble man, who touched so many people’s lives with his zest for life and ability to make them laugh. John was an amazing and unique individual who lived and loved life in a way that only one can wish to experience. Those who knew him were lucky to have been a part of his long life.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Athanasius and St. John Parish in Rumford on Friday, May 31 at noon. Please join his family and friends for a reception after the service in the church.
