Joan G. Staples

Joan Goodwin Staples, age 100, passed away on Saturday May 8, 2021 at Mercy Hospital. Joan was residing at 75 State St. before her passing.

She was born in Biddeford, Maine on March 21, 1921 the daughter of Ernest and Hortense (Leavitt) Goodwin.  

Joan was a graduate of Biddeford High School, and the class Salutatorian. She attended Tufts University and graduated from Katharine Gibbs School in Boston.

She was employed for a number of years by the Guy Gannett Publishing, Co., then later assisted her husband with the operation of Forest City Scales at Woodfords Corner and at Morrells Corner.

Joan was a hospital volunteer for many years. She enjoyed playing the piano and sewing.

She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary and the Woman’s Literary Union.

Joan was predeceased by her parents, her husband Wesley S. Staples in 1988, and her sister Patricia G. Comber in 1992. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
