Jeanne Place Obituary

Portland-Jeanne Marie Place, passed away on November 29, 2022 surrounded by her loving family.

Jeanne was born on November 2, 1962, to Freeman and Josephine Dulac in Portland and graduated from Portland High School in 1981. She attended Westbrook College and graduated with a Degree in Medical Assisting.

She met her one and only, the love of her life, Charles “Chuck” Place, at Lyseth Elementary and they started dating in 10th grade at Portland High. They married on May 17, 1985, and embarked on their life journey together. In time, their family grew, and they were blessed with two children, Nicole (Coco) and Matt, making their lives complete. Together as a family they shared many memorable adventures in boating, camping, snowmobiling, vacation travel, and endless celebrations.

Jeanne began her career as a medical assistant with Dr. Joel Botler at his internal medicine office in Portland. That practice ultimately became part of the merger that led to the creation of InterMed P.A. where she would work for her entire 38-year career, starting as a medical assistant, and later becoming the Practice Manager at InterMed. Jeanne’s strong leadership skills, compassion, and ability to motivate others helped her earn the respect of her colleagues. She cared deeply for the people she worked with.

There is nowhere Jeanne loved more than her camp on Little Sebago Lake. She and Chuck surrounded themselves with friends and family at the lake all summer long partaking in cribbage, happy-hour boat cruises, sandbar swims, walking her grand-dogs Louie and Bunker, conversations by the outdoor fire, and an occasional late-night skinny dip when no one could see. Jeanne took great pride in organizing the first Lake Grove Springs block party, where neighborhood friends gathered to share great food and company.

If you had the good fortune of knowing Jeanne, then you knew she was something special. Her tenacity and resilience were remarkable. Once she set her mind to something, you knew it would be accomplished. Her approach to life was honest and direct. You could always count on Jeanne to tell you the truth. She told you exactly what she thought and was anything but subtle - an admirable trait you grew to love.

You always knew when Jeanne had arrived or was nearby because of her infectious laugh. It was unmistakable. She laughed often and without abandon. And of course, no celebration was complete without Jeanne exhibiting her dance moves! Jeanne truly lived her life to the fullest. She was a constant source of strength, love, and laughter for her family and friends.

Jeanne is survived by her husband of 37 years Charles Place; daughter Nicole Place and her husband Patrick Beaulieu; son Matt Place and his wife Jenny; mother Josephine Dulac; sister Annie-Jo Ouimet and her husband Leon; brother Greg Dulac and his wife Chrissy; sisters-in-law Linda Powell and her husband Jack; Laurie Hibbs and her husband Daniel; Lisa Lathrop; and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends. She also leaves behind the two brightest lights of her life, her “babies,” grandchildren Eloise and Charlie Place. Jeanne is predeceased by her father, Freeman Dulac, and parents-in-law Charles & Roberta Place.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 10th at 10am at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 72 Federal Street, Portland.

Jeanne’s family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at InterMed for their years of care and friendship, and to Dr. Chiara Battelli and her team at the New England Cancer Specialists for their support and guidance during not one, but two cancer diagnoses.
