Jim was a Kiwanis Governor before my husband. He was so great and supportive when I was so distressed about taking on the position he and Cora ROCKED! He, Cora my husband and I became great friends through the years. We always made plans to meet during Kiwanis events. I remember a convention in Canada where the bus we were on was stopped by the police for running a red light. Off the bus went Jim, badge in hand to talk to the officer. That was Jim. Going above and beyond to help. He will be missed.

I was so sorry to hear Jim had passed my family and I lived with Jim Cora and the boys for a few months when we moved from the Midwest back to New England. He provide me an entree to substitute teaching in the Portland system. He had me build two basement rooms while we lived with them. We talked politics a lot! The boys remain in our prayers and we look forward to seeing them at upcoming family reunions. Tom Richard and family

Doug, Jeff and entire Banks family,
It has been many years since our time at Lyman Moore and my first interactions with the the great Jim Banks! I’m sure you’re not surprised to hear stories of your Dad’s many accomplishments involving the Portland community and they were extremely significant.
As an educator, I witnessed first hand how much he advocated for you and ALL of the students in Portland .
He was the staffs biggest supporter, constantly asking what he could do to help us be successful.
Your father was a man of action ; a problem solver whose legacy is evident throughout the city.
He will be sorely missed.
I’m trusting that pleasant memories will assist you throughout the difficult days ahead. May God bless you always.

I knew Jim for 72 years, first at Sacred Heart Gramar School thn at Cheverus High School.  But the most memorable occasion was when I arrvied at Diyarbakir, Turkey AFB in 1958 where Jim was also stationed for five months. I saw him at many Sea Dog and Red Claws games over the years. May Jim Rest-in-Peace.

Thinking of you, Dad, today especially.  I am so proud of all you accomplished in your lifetime, especially those done for the community and your family.  I will miss our conversations and hearing stories from your life.  I love you very much. Rest in Peace, Buddy!
