Dear Erick and Charlotte~
Though I only had a few occasions to be with your mother I felt close to her through her precious friendship with my mother, Karin Crawford. I am deeply saddened that her spirit has moved beyond the veil but I imagine her body is grateful to lay down the courageous struggle of recent years. She seemed tired of it all when I saw her in December '19.
In May of 2016 Karin and I had the pleasure of a visit with Inga in Scarborough. The two remarkable women recounted with unsuppressed delight the time they had on their Alaskan cruise and positively gleamed with the wish they could go again. Inga was brilliantly inspiring, constantly curious, and steadfastly determined. I hold precious the memories of my short visits with her and the memories of what Mom shared of the enduring sweet comfort of their friendship. Two immigrants who made our world a better place in so many ways.
Peace for your dear family,
Carita Crawford-Keene

Carita, thank you for your wonderful tribute to my mom. She loved her friendship with your mother, and the two of them had quite an adventure together on their Alaska trip. Mom and I once visited your mother at her both beautiful and quirky home in Newcastle along the Damariscotta River. What an inspiring pair they made! If, in fact, there is an afterlife, I imagine the two of them talking about every topic under the sun and laughing together!

To put it briefly, Inga was one of Portland’s finest people. Not one for empty titles, she had a keen eye for what really mattered and did not rely on others for where she was going or the inspiration to get there. I admired her for those things and for her cheerful manner and absolute integrity; and I will always remember the good times we shared at Deering High School.

Erik and Charlotte, what a wonderful tribute to your Mom.  I had the pleasure of working directly for her at the YWCA and as you know I met Jonathan, whom she adored, and his sister Claire during those special years.  Your Mom was always so warm and welcoming and a terrific hostess and cook!  One special  memory was how she hid her secret stash of chocolates for the tough times.  She gave us a cookbook "Love Time & Butter" which I will always hold dear.  I was lucky to chat with her a few times in recent years at the Scarborough Hannaford and she remembered us fondly, such a warm smile, and so very nice to see her.  May your memories of her love for you all sustain you.
