Henry Langella Obituary

Henry Richard Langella, 94, of Portland passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 20, 2022.  Born on June 26, 1927 in Portland to James and Henrietta Langella. He was raised in the Libbytown section of Portland attending Butler School, Portland High School and North Eastern Business College.  During his Junior year in High School (1945), he was drafted to serve in the US Navy during WWII. having been stationed  on the  USS YMS429.  After the war ended, he graduated from Portland High School (1947).  After serving, he enlisted in the National Guard.  He was called for duty during the Korean War serving on the USS WHITLEY AKA91.  Upon returning stateside, he worked 32 for Gulf Oil retiring as a senior retail marketer for the state of Maine.  At age 50 he embarked on a new career as a successful  real estate broker.  He married his high school sweetheart, June T. Duffy, and reared 6 children.  For the past 20 years he enjoyed life with his life time companion, Lucy Sesto. He loved, adored, and cherished his time with Lucy.

As a self-taught musician, he played the accordion, piano, organ, guitar, harmonica and banjo.  His true joy was to entertain family and friends on Christmas Eve at his best friend Matty DiPiero's home.  He was a member of the Elks Lodge and a life time member of Harold T Andrews American Legion Post.  He also loved to play cribbage and various card games.

He is pre-deceased by his parents, James and Henrietta Langella, his siblings; Dominic Langella, Peter Langella, and James Langella Jr., Joesphine Fusco, Julie Ashford, Anne (Nunny) Nalevanko, Carmeline Carpenter, his wife June T. (Duffy) Langella, and his son Anthony T. Langella.

He is survived by siblings; Mary Winfield, Katherin Thomas and Rosemarie Cameron.  His children; Diane DiConzo (partner Pat), James Langella (wife Karen), David Langella (wife Cindy), Julie Ford (husband Kyle), and Denise Langella. His Grandchildren Meegan DiConzo (partner Al), Mark DiConzo (wife Kelly), Nicholas Langella (wife Jennifer), Jessica Langella Toher (husband Phil) Derek Langella (partner Megan), Darcy Wilcox (husband Eric), Anthony T. Langella II, June Kane (husband Will), Rocco Langella, Cortney Pelkey (husband Jeremy) Lucas Ford, Margaret Ford, Daniel Ford, Anthony M. Langella-Laws (partner RaeAnn DeRaps) and 17 Great Grandchildren.

Love and appreciation to the entire Sesto, Ricci and Delaney families for their unconditional love and support.  They truly accepted him into their family.  Appreciation and gratitude are heartfelt to the Gosnell Hospice, Home Health nurses and support team.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Monday, January 24, 2022, at A.T. Hutchins Funeral Home, 660 Brighton Avenue, Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated 10 AM Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, 72 Federal Street. Burial with Military Honors will follow in New Calvary Cemetery in South Portland. Services will be live streamed and can be viewed by going to A.T. Hutchins Facebook page or visit the A.T. Hutchins website under Dick’s obituary page. In Lieu of flowers contributions in Dick’s memory may be made to the Boys & Girls Club of Portland, 277 Cumberland Avenue, Portland, Maine 04101.
