Dianne Patricia (Sullivan) Morris

Dianne Patricia Morris passed away on Nov. 8, 2022, joining her husband and loved ones who went before.  She was born on July 12, 1937, in Elizabeth, NJ, oldest daughter of Josephine and Daniel Sullivan.

Widowed in 1970 with two small children, she worked two jobs and washed her work uniform every night by hand in the sink to be sure her children had everything she could give them.

She was an amazing baker, known most for her unrivaled New York cheesecake.  She drove a stick-shift like a race car driver, played her music loud and her air conditioning on high.  She was a “Jersey girl,” and loved her high heels, leopard prints, matching handbags, and Starbucks treats.

My Mother read voraciously and gave me her books, telling me to look up words I didn’t understand.  I owe her my love of language and pursuit of knowledge and lifelong learning.

Her years of hard work were rewarded on Earth with the blessings of her grandchildren and great granddaughter.

Our “Nanny” was smart, proud, funny, and hard-working until she retired in 2007 from the job she loved at Freehold Nissan.  After she retired, she moved to Maine to be with her family.

She was predeceased by her parents and her husband Donald Morris, Sr.  

She is survived by her sisters Elenore Dauncey of Union, ME, Carol Winkelman of Dunellen, NJ.; her daughter, Stacylee Ann Morris and husband Dr. Robert DeRice, son Donald Lee Morris, Jr., and wife Kathleen of Lewiston; her grandchildren Kelly Morris and partner Andrew Chickering, Rachel Knoblach, Erin Morris, Ben Knoblach and wife Courtney, Sarah Knoblach, Meghan Morris, and partner Darian Carney; and one great-grandchild, Isabella Chickering.

Mommy, we will keep the counters tidy, take our shoes off at the door, and remember to keep clean underwear in the glovebox, “just in case.”  Promise.
