Dewey Ferguson Jr.

Dewey Ferguson, Jr., 74, passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2022.  He was born on February26, 1948 in Tykesville, Kentucky to Suemantha and Dewey Ferguson, Sr.

Before moving to Portland, Maine in 1977 Dewey lived an amazing journey through life, he was employed by the FBI in Washington, D.C., he was a firefighter with the Portsmouth, Ohio Fire Department, and served his country in Vietnam. 

Over the past 40 years Dewey was employed at the University of Southern Maine. He was an educator, a problem solver, a friend, a loving husband, and dedicated father filled with love and life.  He will truly be missed. 

Dewey is survived by his wife, Alberta Ferguson; daughter, Rebecca Ferguson Gillard and her husband, Evan; son, Allan Charles; grandchildren, Maria Moore and Alasia Ferguson Gillard; great-grandchildren, Carl, Dominic, and Olivia; siblings, Jimmy Ferguson, Terry Ferguson and his wife, Margaret, Cathy Eli, Joyce Ferguson, and Susan Ferguson; and sister-in-law, Judy Nunn; as well as extended family and friends. 

Visiting hours will be 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at A.T. Hutchins Funeral Home, 660 Brighton Ave., Portland, where a funeral will be held, 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 27, 2022.
