Daniel Reny Obituary

VASSALBORO – Daniel (Danny) Gerard Reny passed away peacefully on February 20, 2024 at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Scarborough with his loving wife and daughters at his side. He was born in Waterville, Maine on March 23, 1947, the son of Gerard and Marie (Beaudoin) Reny.

Danny grew up in Fairfield working on the family farm with his parents, brothers (David and Kenneth (Kenny)) and sisters (Ann, Jean, Barbara (Barbie) and Susan) and was a graduate of Fairfield High School’s Class of 1966. On April 7, 1969 he married the love of his life, Eva June (Hawk) Reny. They were happily married for 54 years at the time of his death.

In 1968 Danny enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a Machinist Mate.  He was a plankowner and served on the USS Detroit (AOE-4) until being honorably discharged at the rank of E-4 (Petty Officer Third Class) in 1971.  Following his discharge, Danny and June settled in Vassalboro where they raised their three children.  Danny worked as an auto mechanic, including co-owning his own garage in Waterville with his brother-in-law Robert (R&H Motors).  In 1982 Danny changed careers and accepted a position as the Auto Body Instructor at the Capital Area Technical Center in Augusta.  Danny ultimately took over as instructor for the Auto Mechanics program until retiring in 2013.

You could find Danny keeping busy working in his garden, taking care of the various farm animals that always seemed to find their way into his barn, or woodworking in his woodshop.  He loved when his children and grandchildren would visit and always made sure the lawn games were ready to go.  He was always a teacher at heart and loved to share his knowledge and experience with his children and grandchildren.

Together, Danny and June lived life to its fullest. They loved to laugh, go camping, travel to visit family and making lifelong memories with children, grandchildren, family, and friends.

Danny is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, June Reny, his three children: son Daniel and his wife Tricia of Norfolk, VA, daughter Kami and her fiancé Chris of Vienna, daughter Kendra and her husband Jared of Raymond, NH, grandchildren: Hunter Reny of Fairfax, VA, Lucas Reny of Fairfax, VA, Brady Bickford of Waterville, Camdyn Bickford of Vienna, Jackson Wall of Raymond, NH and Everleigh Wall of Raymond, NH, as well as his brothers David and Kenny and sisters Ann, Jean, Barbie and Susan and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the entire staff of the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough for their compassion, dedication, and exquisite care over the past few months. God bless you all as you continue to care for Maine’s Veterans.

Our hearts may be broken, but we are comforted by knowing you are in Heaven.

A service will be held at the Maine Veterans Cemetery in Augusta at noon on the 15th of March with a celebration of life to follow at St. Bridget Center in North Vassalboro from 1:30 to 3:30 pm.
