Catherine Pray Obituary

In loving memory of Catherine Ann Pray, who passed peacefully surrounded by family on October 22, 2023.

She was born November 17, 1956, to Anna P. and Felix R. Ferrante. She spent her childhood in Portland on Munjoy Hill, attending Portland High School.

Catherine faced the challenges of life with unwavering strength. Despite the hardships and limitations imposed by Myotonic Dystrophy, she persevered. Hers was a fight that revealed the depth of her resilience and the power of her spirit. Her journey was marked by not only the physical trials she endured but also the profound kindness and empathy she extended to others, showing that true strength lies not just in the body but in the heart.

In 1983, Catherine crossed paths with, Larry Pray, by the tranquil waters of Highland Lake in Windham. It was a fateful meeting, arranged by Larry's mother, Dot, which brought them together on a journey of love that would span 30 years. Their union was blessed in the sacred halls of St. Peter's in 1986, where they pledged their love and devotion to each other.

Catherine enjoyed staying busy at the community center, playing BINGO and attending cooking classes. In addition to her love for Hallmark movies, and romance novels, she also had a deep and abiding faith. She attended church every week, finding solace, inspiration, and community in her religious beliefs. Her regular attendance reflected her commitment to her spiritual journey and the values that guided her throughout her life. This faith provided her with strength and a sense of purpose, and it undoubtedly played a significant role in shaping her kind and loving character.

Catherine’s involvement in the church choir reflected her commitment to her faith and her love for music. Her passion for singing resonated in the hearts of all who heard her. Her spirited and strong-willed nature was evident not only in her personal relationships but also in her faith. Catherine fearlessly expressed her opinions, even if it meant engaging in spirited discussions with the priest when she felt strongly about an issue. Her tenacity was a part of her unique charm, making her a beloved member of the church community.

Catherine faced the unimaginable pain of losing her beloved son, Joseph Michael Pray, in April of 1999. This heartbreaking loss left an indelible mark on her life and made her journey even more challenging. She continued to find strength and love in her heart, demonstrating an incredible resilience that inspired those who knew her.

Joey's memory remained a cherished part of her life, a testament to the enduring bond between a mother and child. Their reunion now provides comfort and solace in a place beyond our earthly understanding, where love knows no boundaries.

Catherine is survived by her husband, Larry Pray of Portland; her sister, Joanne Gerrity of Windham; and her brother, Anthony Ferrante, his wife Diane also of Windham and her beloved nieces and nephews.

In her honor, let us continue to face life's challenges with the same determination and kindness that Catherine embodied, ensuring that her memory lives on in our hearts and actions.
