Bernie was a great guy and an extremely funny person. Both my Dad and I worked with him, (different generations) at the old police station on Federal Street. Bernie and I were also promoted to sergeant in 1973. Since he was quite senior to me, I learned a lot about people from him. A really funny guy!

Condolences to the Coppersmith Family. I enjoyed working with Bernie in the Detective Bureau at Portland P.D. He was a Good Policeman and a credit to his Family, Police Dept. and cCtizens of Portland he served. RIP Bernie.

Berns nurses loved him!! He was ALWAYS so kind and truly put a smile on our faces (even behind the masks). He also had a good sense of humor. He will be missed! Thinking of his family during this time.
