BARBARA HUSSEY MEYERS 7/26/45 - 5/21/23

Her affairs organized, her body worn out, Barbara Hussey Meyers left this world early Sunday

morning, May 21, 2023 with a light heart. She died at her home in Gorham, Maine at age 77. Her lungs could no longer bring in the oxygen that her heart and mind required. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Barbara was born in Bangor, Maine on July 26, 1945 to William Penn Hussey and Regina Cota Hussey. She grew up in Winslow, Maine with her big sister, Elizabeth (Betty) Hussey Spaulding and graduated from Winslow High School in 1963 where she was an active member of the band. After graduation she went to nursing school at Grasslands Hospital in Valhalla, New York and graduated in 1964 as an LPN. She met Philip Meyers at Grasslands and they married in 1965. They had 4 children together as they moved around from California to Pennsylvania to New York, finally settling in Maine. They divorced in 1980 but remained friends and enjoyed sharing their family.

Barbara was a nurse her entire career and worked at many hospitals, nursing homes and long term care facilities such as the Barron Center and the Pineland Center. She en.ded her career at Portland Rehab Hospital retiring in 2010. She lived many years in South Portland, always had her cats at home to keep her company and traveled yearly to go camping with friends in Florida and Maine.

She was a life long gardener and reader and she regularly shared perennials from her garden with friends and family and loved to trade books as well. She always had either a book or a crossword puzzle at her side. Barbara never forgot a birthday and like clockwork a card always arrived. She loved funny birthday cards, funny stories and laughter. She did not dwell on the past but focused on the positives in life. As she lost mobility this last year, her good friend Mary continued to visit and their friend Mark treated them to lunch weekly. She received regular cards from her life long friend Laura. Her sister Betty and husband Lee had regular visits. She moved this past year to Gorham to be closer and spend time with her children and grandchildren. She loved to tell stories about her large family.

Barbara is survived by her daughter Laurel Harris and husband Jeff of Phippsburg, ME, her daughter Tracey Daigle and husband Fred of Gorham, ME, her son Christian Meyers of Gorham and son Joel Meyers of Gorham. She is also survied by her grandchildren: Abigail Harris Shaffo and husband John of Oahu, HI, Jason (JJ) Harris and wife Kelsey of Windham, ME, Jonathan (Jack) Harris of San Diego, CA, Joel Harris of Portland, ME, Lilith (Lily) Harris of San Diego, CA, C.
