Obituary

PORTLAND – Winona Forgeron, 88, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2026, in Portland, Maine, with her loving family by her side.

Born on September 24, 1937, in Portland, Maine, Winona was the daughter of the late Thomas and Frances Winslow. She was the eldest of seven children and grew up alongside her six younger brothers. She graduated from Portland High School in 1956.

Winona met the love of her life, Malcolm Northrop, on a blind date. The two were married on June 6, 1958, and made their home in Gorham, where they raised their three children. A devoted wife and mother, Winona dedicated herself to caring for her family and creating a warm, loving home.

As her family grew, Winona found her greatest joy in being a grandmother. She generously gave her time, love, and attention to her grandchildren, helping care for them throughout their childhoods and creating countless cherished memories. Whether through everyday moments or special traditions, she made each grandchild feel deeply loved and valued. Her grandchildren adored her, and the bond they shared will remain one of her most treasured legacies.

Winona was an avid reader, especially enjoying novels by Danielle Steel. After more than 50 years of marriage, Malcolm passed away in 2010. In time, Winona was fortunate to find love again and married Arthur Forgeron in 2014, beginning a new chapter filled with companionship and happiness.

Winona will be lovingly remembered by her children: Cully Northrop and his wife, Jill; Cheryl Aube and her husband, Robert; and Curt Northrop. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Chelsea Zogopoulos and her husband, Matthew; Cassidee Northrop and his wife, Kayla; Robert Aube and his wife, Sierra; Chris Aube; and Cali Martinez, as well as eight cherished great-grandchildren.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Fallbrook Woods for the exceptional care they provided, and to Compassus Hospice for their kindness, comfort, and support during this difficult time.

Winona's legacy of love, family, kindness, and devotion will live in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
