William R. Lyons February 21, 1929 July 17, 2015 South Portland - William R. Lyons, 86, of South Portland, died on July 17, 2015 at Seaside Health Center in Portland. He was born on February 21, 1929 in Littleton, N.H., the son of Carl and Martha Lyons. His younger years were spent in New Hampshire and Cape Elizabeth. He was a 1948 graduate of Deering High School. He was employed as a book binder at Loring, Short & Harmon for over 40 years and later worked in their purchasing and retail sales departments. After his retirement, he was employed by the City of South Portland at the municipal golf course and also with the school department. William is survived by his wife of 48 years, Kathleen, of South Portland, a son Christopher J. Lyons of South Portland, a sister Betsy Jack of Wilmington, North Carolina, an aunt Gloria Jock of Corpus Christi, Texas, a niece Patrice Foley-Olsen of Windham, a nephew Jeff Lyons of Wilmington, North Carolina and several great and great-great nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Carlene Foley. Friends and family are invited to visiting from 1 - 2 pm, followed by a memorial service at 2pm on Friday July 24, 2015 at A.T. Hutchins Funeral & Cremation Services, 660 Brighton Ave, Portland. A reception will follow the service at the Thornton Heights Methodist Church, 100 Westbrook St, South Portland.
