William "Bill" Ingraham, 84, of Hollis, Maine, passed away on April 13th, 2025 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Bonnie (Johnson); and his children: Kelly (Jim) Hasselbach, Bill (Anita), Darrin, Steven (Stephanie) Ingraham, and Steven's twin sister, Sharion (Adam) Morin. He is also survived by his step-sons, Keith (Laurie) and Gregory McLaughlin, with whom he had a very close relationship and who were more like sons to him. Bill loved Gregory's dogs, Miley Cyrus and Miss Pickles, and they loved him in return. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, and his brother, Albert (Stephanie) Ingraham. He was predeceased by his folks, as he lovingly called them, A. Marion and William Ingraham, and his sister, Sharon Keene. Bill worked many jobs throughout his life. He served as a Cumberland County Sheriff's Deputy, was well known as "The Bridge Tender" while working on the old Million Dollar Bridge, and volunteered with the South Portland Fire Department Call Company. He retired after years in construction. He served honorably in the Maine Army National Guard for over 28 years. He was a proud member of several organizations including the Elks Lodge in Wells, the American Legion Post 197 in Westbrook, the Improved Order of Red Men, and a life member of AMVETS Post 25 in Portland. He held many positions within the AMVETS, including Post Commander and Department of Maine Commander. Bill enjoyed going to his daughter Sharion's house for barbecues with the family. Bill raced cars at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in his younger days. He also enjoyed going to car shows, the Fryeburg Fair every year, watching his grandchildren's sports — including football, wrestling, and baseball — concerts, Sea Dogs baseball games, going out to eat, and car rides — always taking the scenic route. In February, Bill and Bonnie went out to lunch with granddaughters Mariah, Alexis and Emma, he had a great visit and was looking forward to more. The last thing Bill did was go for a pancake breakfast on Maple Sugar Sunday with Bonnie, Keith and Laurie. Bill loved watching the hummingbirds as he sat on his back step sneaking a smoke. He loved to dance, especially in his younger days, when he competed in jitterbug contests with his sister, Sharon. Bill was known as Grandpa. He called his wife Grandma or My Sweetie. He will be dearly missed by all his family and friends, especially his AMVETS family. Thank you to MMC Bean 5 & Gibson 7 and the Gosnell House for their compassionate care of Bill. A graveside service will be held at Brooklawn Memorial Cemetery, 2002 Congress Street, Portland, Maine, on Saturday, May 10th, 2025, at 11:00 AM. A luncheon will follow at AMVETS Post 25, 186 Washington Ave., Portland.
