William David "Dave" Holt December 29, 1954 June 28, 2012 Dave Holt, 57, surrounded by his loving family at his side, passed away following a long illness that he fought courageously with patience, grace, and positive spirit. Dave was born in Atlanta, GA on December 29, 1954, the loving son of Elizabeth Jane & William Watson Holt, Jr. Dave was a committed and faithful parishioner of St. Joseph's Parish of Portland and Knights of Columbus. He loved golf, the family home at Higgins Beach, and sailing. Most enjoyed and loved by Dave was his family and connections and lifelong relationships he forged with everyone he met. Anyone Dave encountered throughout his life became his friend who was forever remembered in his generous heart. Dave never met a stranger. He attended Immaculate Heart of Mary grammar school. In October, 1966 the Holt family moved to Purley, England, outside of London, where he attended The John Fisher School and graduated from the 5th Form in 1972. Dave was a starting Rugby Prop for The John Fisher First 15 and City of London First 15 rugby teams. After graduation, he returned to the United States & lived in Florida & Michigan where he was an Able Seaman in the United States Merchant Marines. In 1980, Dave settled in Portland, Maine where he attended the University of Maine at Portland/Gorham followed by 26 years at Bath Iron Works. Dave enjoyed his most recent career with Morong Brothers of Falmouth. Dave continued his passion for rugby in the states and played for the Portland Rugby Club. In 1989, Dave married Mary Jane Martin and was blessed with two beautiful children Andrew and Danielle. He was also blessed with nieces and nephews Chris, George, Ellie, Elise and Maggie. Dave is survived by his parents along with his loving and dedicated wife Mary and his two children Andrew and Danielle. He is also survived by his three brothers Don Holt and his wife Debra of Maitland, Florida; Drew Holt and wife Vicki of Falmouth; and Dan Holt and wife Dorothy of Cumberland, and all his nieces and nephews. Many special thanks to the amazing people who answer the call of the medical profession from Maine Medical Center and Springbrook Rehabilitation Center. The loving hands and hearts of these people will never be forgotten by Dave's very grateful family. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, July 1, 2012 from 4 - 8pm at A.T. Hutchins, LLC Funeral and Cremation Services, 660 Brighton Ave, Portland. The Holy R osary will be recited on Monday, July 2, 2012 at 11am at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00pm at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 673 Stevens Avenue, Portland.
