William C. McCullough "Bill" January 23, 1940 April 4, 2012 Lebanon - William ""Bill"" McCullough, of Lebanon, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2012 at home with his family by his side. He was born on January 23, 1940, in Charlottesville, Virginia to Drs. Robert W. and Johnnie A. McCullough and raised in Port Jervis, New York. Bill attended the Oakwood Friends School in Poughkeepsie, NY, where he received his secondary education, Hope College in Holland, Michigan, transferring to and graduating from Westminster Choir College with his Bachelor in Music Degree. After being stationed in Germany for three years with the United States Army, Bill pursued his Masters' Degree in Music at the New England Conservatory. After moving to Maine in 1972, Bill established himself in Southern Maine as a Piano Tuner / Technician. Over his career, he proudly tuned piano for the Portland Symphony Orchestra, University of Southern Maine, Bates College and Bowdoin College, along with hundreds of private customers. Bill served several New England churches over the years as organist and choir director, including Unitarian Universalist Church in Kennebunk, Riverside Methodist Church is Kezar Falls and Church on the Cape in Cape Porpoise. Always an ear for music, Bill was considered to be a fine recording engineer and traveled around Southern Maine in the summers to tape the various music events, such as the Sebago-Long Lake Music Festival, Bowden Summer Music Festival and for such groups as the Portland String Quartet. Many of his recordings were used by MPBN radio over the years in their programming. Bill ""wore many hats"" in his life, always with enthusiasm. He was a member of the Friends of the Kotzschmar Organ, The Rossini Music Club, Fire Investigators of York County, International Association of Arson Investigators, West Buxton Volunteer Fire Department and Lebanon Fire Department. In addition, Bill volunteered regularly over the years to ""man"" the fire tower on Ossipee Mountain in Waterboro. Bill leaves behind his wife, Lori Tierney McCullough of Lebanon, his daughter, Marcie Yager and her husband Stephen and their daughters, Emily and Julia of Gorham, his son Colin McCullough and his wife Jennifer and their sons, Carrick and Gareth of Sutton, MA, his stepchildren Karin Tierney of Berlin, VT, Heather Tierney and her husband, Ben Madore of Washington, D.C., his brother, Douglas T. McCullough, of Calgary, Alberta, Canada and his father-in-law, Don Williams. In addition, he leaves behind his close friend, Stewart Shuster of Ocean Park, many dear friends and beloved animals. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Bill's wonderful caregivers, Sara, Kelly and Hillary, as well as Sue and Doug from Beacon Hospice for all their dedication and care.
