Wayne S. Gray June 6, 1936 March 7, 2012 Portland - Wayne S. Gray, 75, of South Portland, passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at the Maine Medical Center. He was born on June 6, 1936, in Blue Hill, to Sheldon and Florence Gray. Wayne was a 1955 graduate of South Portland High School. Wayne was enlisted in the Maine National Guard from 1954 to 1956. He then served in the US Marine Corps from 1956 to 1959, followed by his service in the US Marine Corp Reserves from 1959 to 1962. He later worked as a shoe maker for many years and eventually owning his own business, Gray's Moccasins. After retirement he worked part time delivering for the Cookie Jar. Wayne loved spending time with his daughter and two grandchildren. He would always take them to the fairs, Scarborough Downs, and flea markets. His grandson also has fond memories of him taking him strawberry picking, and out for ice cream, and his granddaughter's best memory is also going out for ice cream, and walks up and down the street. Wayne loved horse racing. When he wasn't at home you could often find him at the race track. He also loved the Red Sox. Wayne is predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his daughter, Michelle Gray, grandson Ryan Boles, and granddaughter Jayden Gray, all of South Portland. Also Michelle's brothers, Brion Langley, and wife Lisa, Virginia, and Shawn Mckeough , and wife Natalie, Florida. He is also survived by an Aunt, an Uncle and many cousins, along with his best friend Billy James, of South Portland. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Wayne's life on Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at A.T. Hutchins, LLC, 660 Brighton Avenue, Portland, with visiting hours from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, with a funeral service to follow at 7:00 PM. A private family Interment will be held at a later date.
