Warren W. Smith, 63, passed away at home on June 2, 2026, following a long illness. He was born on January 16, 1963, in Waterville, the son of the late Robert and Leona (Woelk) Smith.
After graduating from Maine Central Institute, Warren earned a degree in computer science from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and worked in computer consulting and retail management. Affectionately known as “Warbus” and “The Driving God” to his many friends online and off, Warren was a self-described and proud curmudgeon whose signature reserve and acerbic wit were legendary. He especially loved Augusts with friends at his family camp on Moosehead Lake, PC and table top gaming, thunderstorms, the scent of roses, Scrabble, Tab cola, Honda cars, Humpty Dumpty barbecue chips, decorating for Halloween, movie nights, disc golf, yard sales, otter videos, his Mom’s potato salad, overusing emojis, British murder mysteries, and all things sci-fi. A devoted pet parent, Warren deeply treasured his dogs and ferrets.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Sandra Bowling and husband Lee, and brothers Grayln and Marlin Smith. Warren is survived by brother Kevin Smith and wife Deborah of Pittsfield, sister-in-law Annette Smith of Greenville, sister-in-law Nadine Grant of Apollo Beach, FL, longtime friend Cory Legassie and roommate Robert Blow of Portland, and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life is planned for a date to be determined. Those who wish may make donations in Warren’s name to the Animal Refuge League in Westbrook, ME.
