Obituary

Viola Mallon December 13, 1923 October 11, 2012 Cumberland Center, Maine- Viola Mallon, 88, passed away on October 11,2012 after a short illness at the Gorham House in Gorham, Maine. She was born in Morgantown, West Virginia on December l3, 1923, the daughter of Matthew Zuzeck and Caroline Marinch Zuzeck. She spent her early years on her grandmother's farm in Masontown, P A with her brothers, aunts, and uncles. She moved to Brooklyn, NY in the mid-1930s where she attended public schools. After attending James Madison High School she began full-time employment with the Curacao Trading Company, a Dutch import-export firm with U.S. headquarters on Wall Street and in the World Trade Center. She spent nearly forty years with the company. She married James J. Mallon of Brooklyn, NY on February 4, 1950 and gave birth to her only child, Janis Mallon, in 1955. In 1978 she moved to Ridgefield Park, NJ and then to Cranbury, NJ in 1985 where she retired from her position as Secretary-Treasurer of the Curacao Trading Company. She relocated to Maine in 2003 and lived with her daughter and son-in-law until 2010, when she took up residence in the Gorham House. Viola loved animals, was an avid gardener, and in her later years was passionate about bird watching. She will be remembered by all for her quick wit and sense of humor. She was predeceased by her brothers Victor, Matthew, and John Zuzeck, and by her husband James who died in 1975. She is survived by her daughter Janis C. Mallon and son-in-law Richard K. White, both of Cumberland Center, Maine, and several nephews, nieces, and cousins. Arrangements are by A. T. Hutchins, LLC, Portland and are private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Maine Audubon Society, 20 Gilsland Farm Road, Falmouth, ME 04104, or, the Maine Parkinson Society, 359 Perry Road, Bangor, ME 04401.
