Victor E. Thayer March 16, 1936 September 15, 2013 Portland- Victor E. Thayer, 77, passed away on September 15, 2013 following a brief illness. He was born in Portland, a son of Richard L. and Rose Marie (Pelosi) Thayer. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Germany where he was a Military Policeman. One of his fondest memories was escorting President Eisenhower while he played golf at Augusta National Golf Club. After the service, Vic became a skilled sheet metal worker, working in the Portland area becoming well known for his knowledge and workmanship. His reputation of quality work led to a job offer as a carpenter at St. Joseph's Convent in Portland, a job he held for many years before retiring. He was pre-deceased by a sister, Judy Fitzgerald and a son in-law, David Barter. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Marilyn (Shapazian) Thayer; children, Lisa Thayer, Patti Barter and Susan Labbe; grandchildren, Anthony, Erin, Nicole and Sarah. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren. At his request, services will be private.
