Thomas Ryan Jr June 22, 1929 October 20, 2016 Scarborough - Thomas Ryan Jr, 87, passed peacefully on October 20, 2016, at the Gosnell House in Scarborough. Thomas was born on June 22, 1929 in Caribou, Maine to Thomas Ryan Sr. and Marjorie (Harris) Ryan. He graduated from Portland High School and went on to serve in World War II in the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and was an Ironworker with Local 496 for 42 years. Thomas was an avid sports fan and could always be found on the sidelines of his children, and later grandchildren's, many sporting events. When not spending time with his family, Tom enjoyed watching the Red Sox and the Patriots, reading the newspaper and doing crossword puzzles. His greatest passion was golf, playing at Riverside, Willowdale and Dunegrass. Thomas is predeceased by his parents, his beloved wife and jitterbug partner Joyce (Rideout) whom he was married to for 50 years, and his niece and nephew Kim and Ralph Carver. He is survived by his sister Dolores, and her husband Robert Butterfield, niece Julie Carver and great nephew Norman Carver. Thomas is also survived by his five children and nine grandchildren: Thomas Ryan III of Scarborough and his children Thomas IV and Rachael, Jody Ryan of Portland and her son Tyler Moulton and his husband Arjun; Robyn Carrier and her husband Mark of Scarborough and their children Ryan and Heather; Tammy Ryan of Portland and her children Courtney and Brent; and Jason Ryan of Scarborough, and his children Hunter and Brayden, and his girlfriend Andrea Gooch of Gorham and her two children Caleb and Katie, who Thomas truly thought of as family. He is survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, and friends. He will be dearly missed by his children and grandchildren who were the ""greatest joys in his life."" Thomas's family will be forever grateful for the wonderful staff of Hospice of Southern Maine and the Gosnell House for their care and compassion.
