Obituary

Thomas Francis Kelley March 14, 1921 May 27, 2014 On the afternoon of May 27, 2014, Thomas F. Kelley, of Westbrook, passed away peacefully of natural causes at the Baron Center in Portland. Tom was 93 years old. He was born in Portland on March 14, 1921, the son of the late William and Ellen Flaherty Kelley. He grew up on South Street in the Gorham Corners section of Portland, attended local schools and graduated from Portland High School in 1939. During World War II, Tom served his country in both the European and Pacific theaters. After the war, Tom attended Gorham Normal School. In 1948 he married the former Patricia Gallant of Westbrook at St Hyacinth Church. Tom worked for Texaco for over 35 years, retiring in 1980. In his younger years, he was an avid bowler and won many trophies as a member of various leagues. Always an avid sports fan, he particularly enjoyed the Boston Celtics and Boston Red Sox throughout his life. In his later years, Tom enjoyed travel with his wife as well as participating in many family activities. Tom was predeceased by his sister Mary Robinson and brothers William, John and Everett. Surviving are Patricia, his wife of 66 years, four children, his daughter Maureen and husband Michael Muccino of Wiscasset, sons Dick and wife Gina (Donatelle) of Lake St Louis, MO, William and wife Michelle (Tetreau) of Westbrook, and Thomas of Old Orchard Beach; twelve grandchildren, Darin, Christian, Michelle, Danielle, Lindsey, Kristina, Meghann, Jennifer, Sean, Sara, Tom and Nicole; and nine great-grandchildren. Tom will best be remembered as a gentle man, a wonderful father and husband, with a great sense of humor, who expressed at every opportunity how lucky he felt to share his life with his wife Pat and how proud he was of his children and their families. A true family man - funny, proud, and grateful. The family wishes to thank the Baron Center for the kind and gentle care given to our beloved Tom during his stay over the past months. Friends and family are invited to visitation from 10 am - 12 pm, followed by a service at 12 on Monday, June 2, 2014 at A.T. Hutchins Funeral & Cremation Services, 660 Brighton Ave, Portland. Interment with military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
