Terena "Terri" Ishihara, of Cumberland, Maine, passed away July 5th, 2022 surrounded by her loved ones after a brief fight with pancreatic cancer. Terena was born on October 14, 1961 to Mervyn and Mary Lou (Holt) Ishihara in Portland, Maine and graduated from Deering High School in 1980. She went on to work for Unum for 38 years where she was a Solutions Offering Director. Terena had a deep passion for family. That passion showed through unwavering love for her children, her attentiveness to her aging parents, and her excitement to share everything with her siblings. In the modern world, even charity can be selfish, those who knew Terena understood her actions were not for personal gain or good feelings. They were gestures of kindness and generosity that came at no cost, there was no fine print, no scorekeeping, and she never expected anything in return. It is safe to say, Terena gave more than she ever took. She had a talent for making meaningful connections with people wherever she went. If you are one of those people, know those connections were real. She had a heart big enough for everyone. Terena was active and enjoyed hiking, running, cycling, being out on the ocean with her children, and a casual glass of wine. A collector of experiences and a proponent of appreciating life. She led by example and served as a constant reminder that it was okay to let your hair down and have a little fun. Terena is survived by her two children, Kealoha and Troy Higgins; two brothers and their wives, David and Leslie Ishihara, and Stephen and Karen Ishihara; her father Mervyn Ishihara; her sister-in-law, Donna Ishihara; many nieces and nephews, and countless friends. She is predeceased by her mother, Mary-Lou Ishihara; brother Kevin Ishihara; and niece Allyson Ishihara. In lieu of flowers and gifts, Terena wished for donations to be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society. A celebration of life will be held in Terena's honor from 1:00 PM - 3:00PM on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at the Dara Bistro; 371 Tuttle Road, Cumberland, ME. It is open to the public. Feel free to bring a favorite photo to share on a memory display.
