Obituary

Sylvia (Burby) Cloukey December 3, 2013 OLD ORCHARD BEACH -- Sylvia (Burby) Cloukey, 82, of Old Orchard Beach, died peacefully and with dignity at her daughter's home on Dec. 3, 2013, after a 20 year battle with Parkinson's disease. Sylvia was born in Ashland, and was one of seven siblings. She was predeceased by her brother, Wade Burby, sister, Florence Duprey; and her beloved son, Brent Paul who died at the age of 16. Sylvia will be remembered as a wonderful and caring person not only within her own family, but also with many children in her neighborhood. For Sylvia, it was important to welcome family and friends into a meticulous home, offer homemade food, and always provide a cup of tea. She loved music boxes, flowers, birds, and delicate knickknacks. She was a wonderful cook who did not follow recipes and made up her own concoctions. Her greatest joy was being a part of her grandchildren's lives. She will be sadly missed by her three grandchildren, Samuel Panico who is currently studying in Denmark, her granddaughter, Miranda Panico, and youngest grandson, Hunter Cloukey. She leaves behind her beloved husband Norman of 58 years; her daughter Bonnie Cloukey of Scarborough, son Todd Cloukey of Meriden, Conn.; and mother of Hunter, Claire Monaghan Cloukey. In addition to her husband, children and grandchildren she is survived by four siblings, Lillian Smith, Phoebe Masse, Owen Burby and Gary Burby. The Cloukey family would like to express their sincere thanks to the Hospice of Southern Maine staff for their wonderful care and support for the past 13 months. Without the support of hospice it would not have been possible to keep Sylvia at home. We would like to acknowledge the caregivers through Interim. We are so grateful for such caring friends and neighbors at Fairway Pond Condo Association. Per the request of Sylvia, there will not be a traditional service. We invite you to a celebration of life luncheon to share memories and pictures of a wonderful woman. This will be held on Sunday, Dec. 8, at the Ramada Hotel, 352 North St., Saco, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sylvia's memory to: American Parkinson's Disease Association (APDA) Massachusetts Chapter 72 East Concord St., Room C3 Boston, Massachusetts 02118 1-800-651-8466 www.apda.org
