Steven M. Schimdt August 7, 1952 December 31, 2012 Steven M. Schmidt, 60 of Portland and formerly of Newtown Square, PA passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House on New Year's Eve after a nine month battle with brain cancer. In accordance with his wishes a celebration of his life was held last evening. A Catholic Mass will be held in his honor in Newtown Square later this month. Steve, the beloved son of Dorothy Frasier Schmidt and the late, Martin Ronald Schmidt, was born August 7th, 1952 in Philadelphia, PA. Steve graduated from Gettysburg College in 1974 and worked for his family's retail furniture business for most of his career. Steve dabbled in other businesses: gyms, gym equipment, family entertainment, vending, stocks and commodities. All of his work interests revolved around his creativity, love of numbers, and all that is mathematical. Steve was a self- proclaimed gym rat and health nut. He loved the beach, summers at the shore and winters in St. Thomas which enjoyed for decades. He lived to lift weights, hike, cycle, and the great outdoors. Steve loved all animals and nature, interests he passed on to his three beautiful daughters. He was a sweet, quietly playful, and gentle father. Steve especially loved parenting his girls when they were babies and toddlers. He was often called, ""Mr. Mom"". Sadly, Steve was predeceased not only by his father, Martin, but also his only sibling, Linda Schmidt Trout, and his former first wife, Patricia D. Schmidt. Steve is survived and sorely missed by his mother, Dorothy; daughter, Heather Autumn Schmidt, her fiancé, Michael Rinaldi, and their son, Anthony Michael Rinaldi; his daughter, Berkeley Amanda Nappi and her husband Joshua Nappi; his daughter, Rachel Olivia ""Liv"" Schmidt; his nephew, Maya Trout, niece Goshen Trout, and special friend, Ann Crockett. Steven's family would like to thank Dr Evans and his team at the Maine Center for Cancer Medicine; Steve's ""nurses"", Cissy, Vanessa, Sarah, Ashton, Megan and Katie; and the gifted staff of Gosnell for making his end of life experience bearable for Steve and us.
