Stephen Edward Swicker January 26, 1926 August 2, 2014 -Portland Stephen Edward Swicker, 78, of Portland passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack at Maine Medical Center on August 2, 2014. Stephen was born to the late G. Russell and Elsie J. (Shaw) Swicker on January 26, 1936 in Worcester, MA With Judy, his loving wife of 48 years, Steve built a happy life that revolved around family and community. He raised three daughters who learned from his example of hard work and helping others. His six grandchildren adored him. For 18 years, he was their most faithful babysitter, playmate, role model and loving ""Parka"". Steve was a strong member of two communities - the neighborhood he lived in for 39 years and Woodfords Congregational Church. Steve loved traveling, spending Sunday afternoons watching NASCAR, home projects, and family get-togethers. He shared a smile and a story with everyone he met. He had a quiet way of showing his love, always offering his help, advice and presence. He was a graduate of UMass Amherst and worked for Roadway Express for 33 years. In addition to his parents Stephen is predeceased by his sister Anne French. He is survived by: his wife Judith (Johnson) Swicker; his daughter Beth McKeeman and her husband Fred of Portland, ME; his daughter JoAnn McGuire and her husband Robert of Franklin, MA; his daughter Carol Swicker of Portland, ME; his brother Norman Swicker and his wife Betty Curran of Franklin, MA; his six grandchildren Nathaniel, Sadie, Zachary, Katie, Mimi, and Jude; and a large extended family. Family and friends are invited to visiting hours from 4pm - 7 pm on Tuesday August 5, 2014 at A.T. Hutchins Funeral Home 660 Brighton Ave. Portland, ME 04102. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday August 6, 2014 at Woodfords Congregational Church 202 Woodford St. Portland, ME 04103. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the caring staff at Portland Fire Department and MMC. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Project FEED at Woodfords Church.
