Stephen James Malenfant May 11, 1957 October 6, 2012 BASS HARBOR - Stephen James Malenfant of Portland, Maine passed away suddenly on Saturday October 6th, 2012 in Bass Harbor, Maine. Born in Caribou, Maine on May 11, 1957, he was the loving son of Leon and Dorilda (Leveque) Malenfant. Stephen attended Caribou High School and graduated from the University Of Southern Maine with a BSN in 1980. Steve's professional career as a registered nurse began in surgery and intensive care. Nursing was his natural calling as he was always looking to help others in every way possible. He was a compassionate and experienced nurse who always went the extra mile for all his patients. For the past several years, Stephen worked at Prudential Insurance and most recently, was employed with DRMS. Stephen was married to the love of his life and best friend, Karole Lynne Johnson, for 30 years. He gave her his steadfast support and unconditional love as they raised their two wonderful sons, Caleb and Micah. A caring and loving person who was always willing to help and support the people around him, Steve opened his home to his family and his sons' friends. He was always there to support his children in all their endeavors including many trips to rugby games and concerts at Wheaton College in Massachusetts where both sons attended college. He loved working on his 200 year old home and enjoyed landscaping, carpentry, and taking on any new project. Steve was often spotted outdoors by the neighbors tackling his latest undertaking. He was a devoted and faithful member of the First Lutheran Church of Portland, Maine, assisting as an usher, sitting on several church committees, serving communion to homebound parishioners, and offering his time and talents in any way he could. Steve's spirit for life, commitment to others, and his dedication to family will be an everlasting testament of the legacy he will leave behind as a source of comfort and strength to all who knew and loved him. Stephen is survived by his beloved wife, Karole Johnson and two sons, Caleb and Micah Malenfant, his father, Leon Malenfant and his wife Mary, of Sun City, Florida, two sisters, Donna McCrossin and her husband Mark, of Caribou, ME and Louise Jordan and her husband Frank, of West Palm Beach Florida, one brother, Kevin Malenfant and his wife Wendy of Westfield, ME, his mother-in-law, brothers and sisters in law and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the many kind people who helped out on Saturday including the EMS and ambulance crew from the Bass Harbor area. Visitation will be held from 6pm to 8pm on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at A.T. Hutchins, LLC Funeral Home, 660 Brighton Avenue. Funeral Services for Stephen will be held on Friday, October 12, 2012 at 11 AM at the First Lutheran Church of Portland, 132 Auburn Street Portland, ME 04103.
