Obituary

Stephen E. Dill May 1, 1941 January 24, 2016 Portland - Stephen E. Dill Steve Dill of Portland passed away unexpectedly at home on January 24th. Steve was born in Houlton, ME on May 1, 1941, he was 74. Steve moved to Presque Isle at age 10, graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1959 and joined the Navy. After his services in the Navy, he returned to Maine where he met his wife Carol. Steve went on to have a full career in the banking industry beginning at Commercial Credit, Maine Savings Bank for 17 years, became a Vice President at the First National Bank of Damariscotta and ultimately was a reverse mortgage specialist with Wells Fargo. Steve really found his passion with the reverse mortgages where he would spend hours with each client getting to know them and telling stories. He had a wonderful voice and enjoyed the years spent in the church choir. He had a passion for cars and kept his looking like they were just off the showroom floor. Steve was as genuine a person that you would ever meet, loved a good joke and sharing stories with friends and family. Steve had a successful career in the banking industry but his love was his family. Steve and Carol settled in Portland to raise their family and have lived in the same neighborhood for over 48 years. Steve used to say he was one of the first t-ball coaches in Portland and used to take his summer vacation to coincide with little league all-stars. He never missed a game or event with his children, sitting all day at the Expo to watch a track meet or taking a bus to Montreal to see his daughter perform at half time of a football game. He was always there for his family. As the family grew he was the proud grandfather ""Papa"" attending dance, cheering, baseball, football, soccer and basketball events as often as he could. He cherished the one on one time with each grandchild whether going to a movie, reading a book together, talking about school or walking in the yard talking about their day. He always took care of everyone and only wanted happiness in return. He was predeceased by his parents Ralph and Anita. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Carol Lee; his daughter Debbie of Portland; his son David and wife Michelle of Portland; and four grandchildren Sarah, Kyle, Julia and Kevin. Friends and family are invited to attend a time of visitation from 4-6 Friday January 29, 2016 at A. T. Hutchins 660 Brighton Ave. Portland. A brief ceremony will follow at 6. A burial will be planned for later in the spring.
