Obituary

Santa Maria Troiano "Dolly" September 12, 1926 June 11, 2015 Portland - On June 11, 2015, Miss Santa Maria Troiano, ""Dolly,"" passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. She was born on September 12, 1926 in Portland, Maine, the daughter of the late Pasquale and Antoinette Mastromatteo Troiano. She attended local schools and was a communicant of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Portland, ME. As a young woman she worked as a colorist for a local photographer and developed an interest in taking pictures. Her family joked about the fact that "If Aunt Dolly didn't take her pictures, none of us would know what we looked like as children!" She worked at Fairchild Semi-Conductor in South Portland for many years. Dolly never married, and loved children, especially babies. She was devoted to her family and to her many nieces and nephews and enjoyed cooking for them and caring for them. She was always very giving and would help them out in any way she could. She was a wonderful aunt to them as well as to her great and great- great nieces and nephews. Besides her generous heart and helpful nature, Dolly possessed a wonderful sense of humor and a quick wit which delighted her family and gave them so many wonderful memories. During her last days and hours, the family reflected on the many "Auntie Dolly stories" which they most enjoyed and which so typified who she was and her personality. For instance they were astonished to hear that their Aunt Dolly had a lovely singing voice and as a young girl often sang in her church minstrel shows, once cut a record and had turned down an offer for a singing audition in Boston! When asked to sing, she would happily oblige. She will be sadly missed by her many nieces and nephews as a very warm, loving and giving aunt who never said no to them in times of need. Oftentimes sensing a need, she would offer help or assistance before being asked. In many ways, she was like a second mother to them, so it was no burden for them to remain close to her day and night during her final days. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her sisters, Priscilla Prince, Mary Navarro, Lucia ""Lucy"" Pio and brothers; Gerald Troiano and Ralph Troiano. Friends and family are invited to visiting hours from 4 - 7 pm on Monday, June 15, 2015 at A. T Hutchins Funeral & Cremation Services, 660 Brighton Ave, Portland. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 16 at 8:30am, followed by a mass of Christian burial at 9:30 at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 72 Federal St. Portland. Interment will be at Old Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
