Samuel John Mandarelli Junior, age 90, of Windham, passed away unexpectedly on May 10, 2025 at his residence. He was born at home in Portland, Maine on October 23, 1934, a son of the late Samuel and Mary (Trocchio) Mandarelli. Samuel graduated from Cheverus High School in 1952 and received a degree in mathematics from Portland Junior College in 1954. As a young man, he was one of the youngest Mason Apprentice in the local Union. He went on to open his own construction company, Mandi Construction Inc., in 1962, after serving two tours in the United States Army as a marksman. Samuel was very proud of all of the buildings he constructed, including the Lincoln and York County Jails, St. Christopher's Church in York, the Southern Maine Community College Electrical Trades Building, and the Sanford District Courthouse. Throughout his life Samuel enjoyed the outdoors. Whether it was skiing, sailing or hunting, he loved being on the water and in the Maine woods. He particularly enjoyed rabbit hunting with his beagles or blue ticks. He was also passionate about cars, enjoying frequent road trips and Sunday drives, and spending time with his family. Samuel is survived by his loving wife, Linda Mandarelli; two children, Samuel Mandarelli III and Rhonda DiPhilippo (James DiPhilippo); and two granddaughters, Isabella DiPhilippo (Lieutenant Commander Thomas Beutler) and Bridget DiPhilippo (David Hart). He is also survived by his brother-in-laws Charles Doughty (Tonya), James Doughty (Barbara), John Doughty (Darleen), Donald Doughty (Diane); sister-in-law Cherly Trufant (Dana); and many nieces and nephews. The funeral service to honor Samuel will be held on Friday, May 23, 2025 at 10:00 am at St. Peter's Church in Portland, Maine. Visiting hour will be held at A.T. Hutchins in Portland, Maine, between 5 pm and 7 pm on Thursday, May 22. The committal service will directly follow the mass, at Calvary Cemetery. After which, all are invited to a gathering at the Elks Club, 1945 Congress St. Portland.
