Obituary

Ruth J. Hamm February 6, 2014 PORTLAND - Ruth J. Hamm, 83, a longtime resident of 100 State Street, died peacefully on Thursday, February 6, surrounded by her loving children. ""Ruthie,"" as she was known to her many friends, was born in Bridgton and attended school in Bridgton and Portland. She was the youngest daughter of Guy and Lena (Simmons) Lord. She rarely missed setting up her table at her building's flea market, enjoyed afternoons watching her favorite television shows, Judge Judy and Doctor Phil, had an impressive collection of ceramic angels, and played beano with a passion. She loved a good lobster roll (without the roll), the bismarks from Tony's Donuts, and never missed a chance for a hamburger at Harmon's. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 33 years, Alton L. Hamm, Jr., her infant son Michael Thomas Hamm, her older sister Annette Rowe, her brother Paul Lord, and her life-long friend Phyllis Michaud. She is survived by her sons Byron, Gary and George, by her devoted daughter Mary, three granddaughters, four great-grandchildren, her sister Charlotte Clemens, and four nieces. She is also survived by her special and supportive cousin Chucky Robarts and his wife Dee, of Maine and Connecticut. At her request, there will be no funeral service. The family is planning a spring burial and memorial at Calvary Cemetery in South Portland. Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations in her name to the American Heart Association, 51 U.S. Route One, Scarborough, Maine 04074.
