Ronald Edward Norris January 29, 1931 October 7, 2014 Ronald Edward Norris, 83, of Portland passed away at The Gosnell Memorial Hospice House on October 7, 2014 with his family at his side. Ron was born in Winthrop, Maine on January 29, 1931 to the late Ronald and Mabelle (Basset) Norris. He was a lifetime Maine resident and a member of the Italian Heritage Center. He attended Portland High School where he was a standout performer in football and baseball. He met his wife of 64 years (Eugenia R. Salamone) at PHS where he was voted best looking and she was voted most popular for the 1949 graduating class. Go Bulldogs! After marrying his high school sweetheart, Ron held various jobs in the greater Portland area. He settled upon self-employment, owning and operating three businesses during his working years: Celluseal Corp, Northeast Insulation and Northeast Insulators. Ron held true to the hard working, fair and honest Maine integrity in all that he did. Ron and Eugenia had six children. Ron loved being surrounded by his family. He enjoyed watching all sports and attending the sporting activities of his children and grandchildren. Although he was quiet and reserved, he had a very charming and genuine way about him. He was a selfless, dedicated and loyal man who appreciated the good qualities of others. Ron had a very fast wit and sense of humor which was still in full effect during his last days. He was simply a tremendous role model for all those who were lucky enough to know him. During retirement, Ron looked forward to his annual treks south to visit his sons Robert and Joseph in Florida and daughter Ann in Mississippi. He liked his daily Wall Street Journal, the stock market and options trading. Ron is survived by his beloved bride, Eugenia R. Salamone; sons: Robert E. and wife Donna, Richard E. and wife Patti, Joseph P. and wife Holly, and Francis P. and wife Anne; daughters Eugenia R. and husband James R. O'Brien, Ann N. and husband Daniel E. Whyte; 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren. Ron was predeceased by grandson, Nicholas R. Norris. A mass of christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday October 11, 2014 at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church 72 Federal St. Portland, ME 04102.
