Roger "Duff" Doherty Not letting the snowstorm leave town without taking him along for the ride, Roger "Duff" Doherty passed away, Sunday January 30, 2022 after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease, throwing back kisses, hugs, love and thanks to his family and friends. Duff was born in Salem, MA, in 1950, the son of Roger Doherty and Mary Gertrude (McVann) Doherty of Peabody, MA. Duff graduated from Bishop Fenwick High School, received an associate degree from Wentworth Institute, and then a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from UNH. He and his wife, Janice (Metcalf) Doherty were married in 1978 and moved to Portland in 1979 where they resided until his death. Duff retired from Fairchild Semiconductor in 2011 after 27 years as a Mechanical Draft Engineer. An avid skier, Duff spent his winters ripping it up at Sugarloaf. He was also a lifelong golfer, hiker and cyclist, taking every opportunity to get out on the green, the trail or the road. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends, preferably during happy hour. Duff was a vibrant, happy, sweet, and fun guy who lived life to the fullest, wanting nothing more than for his family and friends to be happy and do the same. Duff was predeceased by his parents and is survived by his wife Janice, their daughter Lindsay Babayan, and her son, Anthony of Cumberland, ME; their son Shane Doherty of Chicago, IL; and his brother, Charles Doherty and his wife Eileen of Lexington, MA and their daughters. We invite all who knew Duff to join us in a celebration of his life at The Club at Riverside (Riverside Municipal Golf Course) on Saturday, Feb. 5, at 4pm where we will raise a glass to him, in true Duff fashion. There will be another celebration of life at Sugarloaf on a TBD date. Donations in his memory can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Maine Chapter 383 U.S. Rt.
