Robert Harlan Rumery June 26, 1929 March 1, 2014 PORTLAND -- Robert Harlan Rumery passed away peacefully on March 1st, 2014 at the Cedars Nursing Home in Portland, Maine. He was born on June 26, 1929 in Portland to the late Lauriston and Elizabeth Rumery. He graduated from South Portland high school in 1950 and proudly served his country with the US Air Force in Korea and later with the Marine Corps reserves. Bob married his classmate, the former Betty Gene Tolman of South Portland, in 1953. They eventually settled on Prospect St. in Portland raising their family in a neighborhood of great friends and family for over 40 years. He worked as a lineman for the New England Telephone Co. for over 35 yrs until he retired continuing his Wednesday morning breakfast ritual with lifelong friends and co-workers well past his retirement. Bob was a avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt the Maine woods. Some of his fondest memories were going to 'camp' in Kingfield and Rangely with friends and family. He truly appreciated the numerous visits from friends and relatives his last few years at Cedars and Park Danforth. They were a great comfort to him. Bob and Betty had two children. He is survived by Ken Rumery of Portland and his wife Cathy and Bonny Rumery Harte and husband Michael of Rochester, NH. He will be greatly missed by five grandchildren, Joe and Matt Rumery, Casey Coran, Griffin and Sullivan Harte, and two great-grandchildren Avery and Mckinley Coran. Bob was predeceased by his wife of 57 years Betty Gene, and his brothers Donald and Peter. There will be a gathering of family and friends Wednesday, March 5th at A.T. Hutchins funeral home on 660 Brighton Ave., Portland, Maine from 2-4 and 6-8 pm.
