Robert E Esty June 25, 1927 April 15, 2016 Robert E. Esty, Sr., 88, died at his home in Falmouth on April 15, 2016 after a long illness. He was born in Everett, Massachusetts on June 25, 1927 and was the son of Howard F. Esty, Sr. and Ruth Smith. He attended schools in Everett until he joined the Navy at the age of 17. He was a gunner's mate aboard the USS St. Paul, third fleet, during WW II and was involved in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign. When he returned from the war, Bob did various jobs around Portland until he joined Warehouse Transportation in 1948, which later became McCarthy Transport. On February 26, 1949 he married Olga Mary Muccino at St. Peter's Church. They settled in the East Deering neighborhood of Portland and raised their sons Robert and Michael there. After retiring in 1975, Bob enjoyed making clocks for his family which they will always treasure. He also helped his son Robert build his home, he was a jack of all trades and no job was too big for him to tackle. Bob enjoyed spending time with his family and attending events that his granddaughters were involved with. Bob especially enjoyed spending time with his sons and their friends for men's weekend at his camp at Sugarloaf, The Scanty Bag Inn. The boys will miss all of the stories that Bob would share over the weekend. Bob is survived by his wife of 67 years, Olga Esty, his son Robert E. Esty, Jr. and his wife Janet Hotham and daughters Laura and Kathryn Esty, his Son Michael F. Esty and daughters Leigh-Ann and Sara Esty. He is also survived by a brother Howard F. Peter Gordon and Patricia Cantlin as well as the Hospice of Southern Maine's crew, Shannon, Edie, Cindy, Steve and Dave for their help and support during Bob's final days. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations in Bob's name can be made to Hospice of Southern Maine, 180 US Route 1, #1, Scarborough, Maine 04074.
