Robert W. Delaney May 20, 1937 October 13, 2012 Scarborough - Robert W. Delaney, 75, of Portland, known as Bob to family and friends, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 13, 2012 surrounded by his family after a brief illness. Bob was born in Portland, Maine on May 20, 1937, the son of Edward L., Sr. and Mary Francis (Leveque) Delaney. He was one of seven children and grew up on Mechanic Street in Portland and went to Sacred Heart Grammar School, graduating from Cheverus High School in 1955. Bob served in the US Air Force between 1956 and 1960 as a Supply Specialist. Upon returning to Portland, Bob worked many years part-time for REO Window Shade Co. He went on to have a long career working for Ametek , then General Electric in South Portland. When his brother James passed away in 1976, he took over the ownership of M & W Tool Service on Portland Street, in Portland and operated the small tool repair business until his retirement. Bob was very active throughout is life with the Catholic Church. He was a charter member of the Bishop Amedee W. Proulx, Knights of Columbus Council #11257, and in the past served as its Grand Knight and their Financial Secretary. He was also a past District Deputy of the Maine State Council of the Knights of Columbus. Bob was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Assembly 356 of Westbrook and of the Assembly 337 of Portland. Bob was also a board member of the Greater Portland Council of Catholic Men, serving as its President in 2001. Bob was also active in the Portland Boys Club Alumni Association. He was also a past Trustee of the USM Lifeline program, having been a member for over 20 years. Family was very important to Bob. What made him the happiest was being around his grandchildren. He enjoyed the family trips to Spring Point, which they did every Sunday. Bob was also enjoyed quiet times at home reading, but bring the kids in and the book would be down. Bob is predeceased by two sisters Catherine Lorello and Dorothy Ann Larsen, along with two brothers James and John Delaney. He is survived by his beloved wife Marie (Palmer) and his children, Michael Delaney of Portland, Richard (Rick) Glidden of Westbrook, Tracy Feeney and her husband Bill of Windham, and Karren Thompson and her husband Greg of Harrogate, TN. He is also survived his beloved 8 grandchildren; a brother, Edward Delaney of PA and a sister, Mary Burns of Cape Elizabeth, along with many nieces and nephews. Friends and family are invited to a period of visitation on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 from 4 to 8 PM at A.T. Hutchins Funeral and Cremation Services, 660 Brighton Avenue, Portland. Prayers will be recited on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at 9:00 AM at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 673 Stevens Avenue, Portland. Interment with military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
