Robert Jonathan Weagle February 26, 1924 December 26, 2011 Portland- Robert Jonathan Weagle, 87, died peacefully on Monday, December 26, 2011. He had a lifelong love of carpentry, community theater and, in his retirement, he operated the camera for Freeport Cable TV as a volunteer for several years. He was born on February 26, 1924 in Shrewsbury, Mass. to Robert Edgar and Maude (Glencross) Weagle. Bob left high school before graduating to join the Army during WWII and served in the Army of Occupation in Germany. In 1947, he married Esther Mae Spooner. He was a journeyman carpenter for many years before going to work at Hamilton Standard (United Technologies). Bob first worked in their factory operating propeller testing equipment and later became a field service representative. Bob was known as the troubleshooter among troubleshooters and was very proud to have been promoted to a field service representative ahead of those holding engineering degrees. The family initially lived in East Longmeadow, MA but Bob's work took them to Connecticut, Georgia, Florida, California, Illinois, Maine, Hawaii and Italy. Bob also traveled to Chile, Spain, the Philippines, and the Aleutian Islands on various work assignments. He built several of the family's homes and after Bob's last work assignment brought them back to New England, he built their retirement home in Pownal, Maine in 1986. Bob is predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Esther M. Weagle. He is survived by his daughter and her partner, Susan (Weagle) Butler and Victoria Delfino of Windham, ME; his son, Robert E. Weagle of Oakland, CA; two grandchildren, Rosemary and Wendy Weagle of Columbusl, OH and several nieces The family would like to thank the staff of the Portland Center for Assisted Living and Hospice of Southern Maine for the friendly and compassionate care that Bob received during the last few years of his life. A private burial will be held at Elmwood Cemetery, Pownal, ME in the Spring, 2012. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Hospice of Southern Maine in Bob's memory.
